TheBestSchools.org recently produced two articles for teaching about the status of political correctness in contemporary American culture. I used both of these resources in my 100-level Ethics courses at University of Kentucky, and they went over well.
The first article is an informative piece useful for helping students find topics and references for contemporary moral debates. This article focuses on controversial career fields that often feel more like mission callings rather than ordinary career choices, but gives brief introductions to 12 cultural conflicts.
The second article is a fun, informative, thought-provoking quiz, “Political Correctness Inventory” to measure one’s PC leanings. I gave this quiz to my students to do at home, and we discussed the questions as a class. Some questions seem much lighter than others, but it was a good exercise in their critical thinking. Due to the quiz design, being forced choice, they also had to supply alternative positions.
Hello,
I know that this is out of the blue, but I think I have developed a tool that will pair up nicely with the teaching tips offered on this site. Basically,I think that my website might be very helpful to adjuncts, new and old. Whereas the information you provide helps instructors work on their pedagogical approach, I’ve developed a website that will hopefully free up the time to do so.
Anyway, I’m writing now to not only share my site but I’m also wondering if you might be so kind as to check it out and give me some feedback about what you think. What do you think of the name? The concept? What do you like? What do you hate??
BTW, I’ve also reached out to Adjunct Assistance, as I am not sure what exactly the relationships is between this site and that one.
Thank you.
Kind regards,
Kim Bonfilgio
